These animations are part of a collection I developed specifically for the international exhibition titled "Echoes of Antiquity," centered around the theme of Dunhuang art. To convey my grasp and interpretation of Dunhuang art, I adopted three distinct approaches, resulting in the creation of three unique animation pieces.
The exhibition garnered immense acclaim, drawing congratulatory letters from both the Toronto government and scholars. Furthermore, it garnered extensive coverage in numerous mainstream media outlets, cementing its status as a resounding success.

While exploring Dunhuang art, I was particularly captivated by the portrayal of Buddha's eyes, which led me to contemplate the perspective of Buddha and what he perceives. I believe that Buddha's vision encompasses the entire universe. Furthermore, I imagine that Buddha observes the intricate tapestry of every individual's life, akin to the fleeting beauty of a blooming flower that eventually withers.
The iconic image in Dunhuang art often features a fairy playing the lute. A common element among these fairies is the presence of streamers in their attire. I observed that these streamers seem to infuse the character with a sense of dynamism, almost as if they possess a soul of their own. In response to this insight, I transformed the streamer into a bird, thus ingeniously echoing the fairy's graceful, airborne motion.
For the last piece, instead of continuing with hand-drawn animation, I opted to explore key-framed animation techniques using After Effects and Illustrator. My exploration of Dunhuang art taught me that artistic expression knows no bounds; it embraces limitless possibilities and creative freedom. Consequently, for the final piece, I abandoned the constraints of a specific narrative or concept and simply allowed myself to revel in the joy of incorporating Dunhuang elements while embodying the free-spirited essence of Dunhuang art.

Dunhuang art refers to a rich collection of ancient artworks, murals, manuscripts, and sculptures found in the Mogao Caves near Dunhuang, China. These treasures span a thousand years, showcasing diverse influences and depicting religious, mythological, and everyday themes. They offer a window into the cultural and artistic exchanges along the Silk Road.
